Alphonse Tavares Jr was born on May 10, 1936, in Fall River, Massachusetts to Alphonse and Evelyn Tavares. He was the oldest child in the family that included four brothers, Richard, Ronald, Thomas and Lawrence. At age eighteen, Al joined the US Marine Corps and served for 22 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was very proud to be a Marine and of his many personal decorations including three Air Medals, a Navy Commendation with a Combat “V”, Combat Action and Naval Achievement Medals, along with numerous other commendations for his performance and service. Following his time in military service, Al was a painting contractor until his retirement. Al was also a great Seattle Mariners fan and enjoyed watching games and following their progress over the years.

Al is survived by his daughters Roxanne Tavares Gent and Tiffany Rene Tavares, along with Roxanne’s husband Kevin; his three grandsons, Brenden, Dalton, and Braxton, and his granddaughter Kayla; great-granddaughters, Phoebe and Stella, and great- grandson Brooks, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Al’s feisty spirit and independence, along with his great pride in his family and being a Marine will be missed.

Semper Fi, Al!
