In Loving Memory of John David Root

October 23, 1944 — February 20, 2026

John David Root, a man of the Pacific Northwest and a dedicated family man, passed away on February 20, 2026. Born in Eastern Washington, John eventually found his way to the coast, moving to Bainbridge Island around 1970, where he built a life and a career in the grocery industry.

Upon his retirement in 2003, John followed his heart to Sequim, WA. It was there that he truly embraced the "retirement life," spending his days doing exactly what he loved: fishing the local waters, crabbing, and exploring the open road in his motorhome. Whether he was on the water or at a campsite, John was in his element.

John’s legacy lives on through his family, who will remember him for his steady presence and his love for the outdoors. He is survived by his son, Jon, and daughter-in-law, Julie; his granddaughter, Tiffanie, and her husband, Mike.

He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. As a family, we promise to keep the fire stoked as best we can without you, John.

Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA.
