Julia Schmidt, beloved wife, mother, and devoted Mariners fan, passed away at the age of 80, leaving behind a world a little quieter — and considerably less well-read.
Julia is survived by her husband of many years, Richard Schmidt, and her son, Ian Schmidt, both of whom were lucky enough to be loved by a woman who could make anyone laugh and always had the right book recommendation.
A children’s book author, Julia had a gift for seeing the world through wondering eyes while never losing her sharp, sarcastic wit — a combination that made her one of a kind. She believed deeply in the power of stories, and the stories she wrote touched the hearts of young readers just as surely as she touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Julia was a passionate lover of animals and a devoted Seattle Mariners fan who could rattle off baseball statistics with an ease that regularly caught people off guard. Whether she was cheering from the stands or coaching from the couch, she brought the same warmth, humor, and delightful feistiness to everything she did.
She will be remembered for her laugh, her love, and a wit that could light up any room. The world was richer for having her in it.
