In celebration and gratitude for the honor and privilege of your trust for all of those years, we are reaffirming our commitment to all of you. In addition to our annual programs such as Toys for Tots, being sponsors of various community events, and supporting various community services and resources, we are also continuing our new programs "Cook Cares" and "Replenish". For 2022, we are excited and proud to announce that we have been awarded certification from the Green Burial Council for the second year which means we are still the first and only cemetery to offer true certified Green Burial on the Island and throughout Kitsap County!
Important Community Announcement
Jan 1, 2023 12:00 AM to Dec 31, 2024 12:00 PMThe following warning appeared on the FTC's Business Blog on June 15, 2023. Please share this information with your families and/or customers.
Scammers impersonate funeral home staff to prey on mourning families. Can it get any lower?
There’s a new scheme that involves imposters preying on people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The imposters pretend to be from the funeral home and say that, unless the family pays more money immediately, the funeral will be canceled. Can you imagine anything more despicable? That’s why we want to alert members of the funeral industry about the scam and hope other businesses will warn their employees and people in their community.
If there was a Scammers Hall of Shame, this one would make the Top 10 List, without question. Here’s how to spot and avoid this scam:
- Resist the pressure to act immediately. Honest businesses will give you time to make a decision. Anyone who pressures you to pay or give them your personal information is a scammer.
- Contact the funeral home directly. Use a phone number that you know is real, not one you got from the scammer’s text, email, or phone call. If you don’t know it, you’ll find it on the General Price List you got from the funeral home.
- Know how scammers tell you to pay. Scammers want to get your money immediately, and in a way that makes it hard to track them down and hard for you to get your money back. Never pay someone who insists you pay with a wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or a gift card. And never deposit a check and send money back to someone.
If someone tried to rip you off, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
As a long-time island business, we feel it is vital to pass these warnings along to our community. If you ever have questions or concerns about anything regarding funeral services, please feel free to call or email us and we will be happy to help if we can.

Introducing "CookCares" and "Replenish"
Jan 2, 2023 12:00 AM to Dec 31, 2023 12:00 PMAs we celebrate over 83 years of service to our community this year, we are continuing our new services which will be simply unmatched in our area. The first of these is "CookCares". This is our guarantee, to everyone we are honored to serve, that we are committed to providing the absolute best in personal care, services, support, and funeral-related items available in our area.
From how we handle your family's needs, and listen to your requests, to how we care for your loved one or even answer our phone, we want you to be confident that you are receiving the very best. We also want you to know there is someone standing behind all of it... and that's our family.
We have also developed our "CookCares" Code of Ethics. This code ensures and promises that everyone on staff and associated with Cook Family Funeral Home always uses Best Practices when working with you and your loved one. It's just one more guarantee that you are receiving the very best care available.
And to be clear; we are not just saying it, but rather providing it to you in writing. It's easy to claim you are the best. It's quite different to guarantee it in writing!
Our second program is "Replenish". This is our commitment to you and our environment. As you may know, we took over Hillcrest Cemetery here on Bainbridge Island. Shortly after, Cook Family Funeral Home and Hillcrest Cemetery became the first funeral home and cemetery to offer true Green Burial in Kitsap County and surrounding communities.
In addition to Green Burial, we also offer "Aquamation" which is the new Flameless Cremation Process and Composting, which is where we return you to soil. We have also been certified by the Green Burial Council for our third year. In addition, we have looked at everything we do and have tried to find better ways to use our natural resources and reduce our impact on the environment. From better use of space at Hillcrest Cemetery to the products we use at our funeral home, choices are made to better use the resources we have and reduce our impact by employing more environmentally sound offerings and products.
"Replenish" is our promise to be aware and offer the best options we can with the least amount of impact. Simply put, it's giving back to the planet that gives us all so much.
To experience the difference our family and 83 years of service can make, call or visit us today...you won't be disappointed...we guarantee it.

Hillcrest awarded Green Burial Council Certification Again.
Jan 2, 2023 12:00 AM to Dec 31, 2023 12:00 PMIt is true that hard work pays off and that is certainly true at Hillcrest Cemetery. This year marks the third year that we have been awarded Certification by the Green Burial Council.
If you all remember, On December 24, 2020, Cook Family Funeral Home and Hillcrest Cemetery proudly announced to the community, that they were awarded the first Green Burial Council Hybrid Cemetery on Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Penninsula!
This was exciting news and was only possible because of those we are honored to serve. It was all of you who showed interest in Green Burial that gave us the incentive to pursue the certification and we are truly grateful for your continued support!
Our third-year anniversary of certification is dedicated to all of you and we are honored to carry that tradition forward for many years to come.
