Barbara Estelle Glore

Barbara Estelle Glore of Bainbridge Island, WA was born on September 16, 1926 in New York City. She passed away peacefully on December 22, 2010 of congestive heart failure at Hospice of Kitsap County in Bremerton, WA. She was 84 years old.Bobbie was devoted to her family and to a life of learning, exploration and service. She loved to travel but she also dearly loved her home. In addition to much of the U.S., she also traveled across the globe, having visited dozens of countries in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia.When at home, she was continually indulging her love of architecture, interior design, gardening and landscaping. She is survived by her younger sister, Susan Enid Estelle, who still lives in New York, and by her three children, Sandra Fairbank of Santa Rosa,Ca., Livingston (Tad) Fairbank of Bainbridge Island, and Anthony(Tony)Fairbank, also of Bainbridge Island. She has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Bobbie attended Greenvalle School of Long Island and Principia School in St. Louis, and later in life attended Loyola University in Chicago. She married Livingston Fairbank, Jr. in 1948, and moved to Lake Forest, Illinois. In 1960 she married Charles Foster Glore, Jr., also of Lake Forest, and lived there until his death in 1976. A few years later she moved to downtown Chicago, where she enjoyed Chicago's rich urban life of theater, art museums, book clubs, church groups and various charitable organizations.She served on the board of the Lyric Opera and WITS (Working In The Schools),and became a deacon at Chicago's First Presbyterian Church. One of her fondest achievements was the creation of an art therapy program (Insight Through Art)for young children in Chicago's inner city schools. In 2001, Bobbie moved to Bainbridge Island and soon made a home in her waterfront condominium on South Beach Drive, where she made many friends who were essential to her care and joy down to her very last days. Her life on Bainbridge was filled with art tours (especially Bainbridge in Bloom), book club, gardening, travel, and many memorable years with her friends and family (including her two cats).Bobbie will be greatly missed.
