(93) died peacefully on August 28, at 11:39 pm. She was born in San Francisco to Fred and Rose Loftus on March 6th, 1924, the 3rd of seven children. She dropped out of Catholic high school to help support her family when her father, a WWI veteran became disabled. She later met Francis Loverich of Bainbridge Island and they were married on Sept. 6, 1942. She gave birth to 3 sons, Gary (1944), Wayne (1946) and Eddie (1948). During this time, Francis, a skilled shipwright followed his employer (Martinolich Shipyards) from the San Francisco to San Diego but decided to move back to Bainbridge Island, Washington in 1951.In 1957 Francis finished building the family home on 12 acres at Island Center. Later she was employed as a book keeper at the Town and Country Market until her retirement from there in 1986.She and Francis changed their names to Nana and Pops when they welcomed their first grandchild in 1972 and the nine others that quickly followed. As grandparents Nana and Pops were happy to have 7 growing grand-children within walking distance of their home. After retirement Elaine and Francis enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and taking short vacations on cruise ships. Their first great-grandchild was born on 1999. This prompted a name change to Nana Elaine. In January of 2002 Francis died after a brief illness and Elaine continued to live in the family home as 13 more great-grandchildren joined the family. All of the children were a real source of love and pleasure for Nana Elaine. In 2015 she moved out of the family home and into assisted living at Wyatt House and then about a year later to the Madrona house, both on Bainbridge and a both a short 5 minute drive from the family home.
