passed away in her sleep December 11, 2007 at the Messenger House on Bainbridge Island, Washington.Ms. White was a native and long time resident of Reading, MA. until recently when she spent time with family in Los Altos Hills, CA and Bainbridge Island, WA.Elisabeth White was born in Somerville, MA in the autumn of 1923 and was the valedictorian of Reading High School, class of 1940. In 1945, she graduated PhiBeta Kappa from Bates College of Lewiston, Maine, majoring in Abnormal Psychology. Ms. White earned a Masters degree from Boston University in 1946. Elisabeth devoted her career of over 35 years to Massachusetts General Hospital testing children with reading and other cognitive disabilities and advising surgeons and therapists regarding corrective actions.Elisabeth was an active member of the Reading Congregational Church. With her trained soprano voice she enjoyed singing in the church choir and ringing the silver bells at Christmas.She was trilingual and a seasoned traveler, spending many vacations in the British Isles, Bahamas, Spain, and Switzerland. Elisabeth also enjoyed classic music, playing the piano, and solving crossword puzzles in German and French.Her patient understanding, generosity and uncommon wisdom will be missed by friends and family alike.A beloved aunt, Elisabeth White is survived by niece, Cynthia Elisabeth Herrick, Bainbridge Island, WA, nephew Steven Scott Herrick. Los Altos Hills, CA, three grand-nieces and two grand-nephews and her many friends and choir-mates. Her cousin, Caroline Lindquist, resides in Canton, MA.Services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
