George Alexander Martin, 76, of Poulsbo, Washington, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2007.He was born in Harvey, North Dakota to Bertha (Nikolaus) and George Martin Sr.After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the army and served as a sergeant in the Korean war, receiving two bronze star medals for bravery and a purple heart. He returned home to begin his studies at the University of North Dakota and graduated four years later with a degree in journalism. His career started as a reporter for a small newspaper in North Dakota. Later he worked for the Arizona Republic, and eventually accepted a position with the Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C. After retiring from the government, George moved west to be closer to his family.He was very proud of his grandson Kyle Gamble and enjoyed watching him play hockey.He is survived by daughters Ruth Peterson of Bainbridge Island, WA; Susan Gamble (Rex) of Tucson, Arizona; brothers Tom (Laurie) of Salisbury, New Hampshire; Jim (Margaret) of College Park, MD.Arrangements by Cook Family Funeral Home.
