Georgia Lynn Keefer

d. July 16, 2015

passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on July 16, 2015.Georgia was born February 3, 1921 in rural Washington County, Virginia, to Gilbert and Blanche Litton. Although her family was prominent locally, life was not easy. She lost first her father and shortly thereafter her mother at a young age. She lived with her grandparents until both also passed away and was then sent to relatives in Minnesota at age 13. She attended the University of Minnesota, majoring in English, and began her work career as a writer/salesperson at a radio station in Wichita, Kansas. It was there she met her husband Ernie at a concert. They married in October, 1942, and moved to Seattle in 1949. Ernie was an aeronautical engineer and Georgia stayed home with the children.Georgia was very active in the local PTA. She organized fundraisers and events for the grade school, including comedy theatrical productions, which she wrote. She also volunteered at the grade school's library as their only librarian. As her children grew older, she began volunteering for the University of Washington Hospital Service League. She felt there should be flowers for patients at the hospital gift shop so trained as a florist and began offering flower arrangements in the shop. She was the florist for approximately 10 of the 30 years she volunteered at the hospital.Georgia was a voracious reader, enjoyed gardening and being there for her family. If a child needed babysitting, she was there. She provided a home for three of her grandkids while each attended college.Georgia had a quiet demeanor but strong opinions and was devoted to family and friends. We will miss her guidance and love. She is survived by her four children, Michael B. Keefer (Vickie), Merri L. Fulton (Jay), Jennifer L. Olanie and David A. Keefer; grandchildren Jared Keefer, Marc Keefer (Kathi), Elizabeth Keefer, John Keefer, Egan Olanie (Jessica), Aaron Olanie (Pamela) and Kimberly Fulton. Her husband Ernest Burdick Keefer predeceased her in 1991. She also had six great grandchildren whose pictures were displayed all over her wall and who delighted her with visits, Facetime chats and cell phone videos. Please sign the online guestbook for the family.Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association...please click here!
