96, affectionately known as "Trudi", passed away peacefully on December 19, 2016, while residing at Emeritus at Brookdale in Poulsbo, Washington. She died of natural causes, just one month short of her 97th birthday. Surrounded by family, she transcended peacefully to her eternal resting place.Trudi was born January 20th, 1920, in Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Swiss emigrants, Ulrich and Alice Karrer. She graduated an "A" student from Liberty Union High School in Brentwood, California in 1937. She continued her formal education at UC Berkeley, eventually receiving a Master of Arts Degree from the University of California, Davis.Trudi married Jay Russell Jack Jr. (Russ) on February 5th, 1946 in Oakdale, CA. Russ and Trudi met while he was on convalescent leave from wounds he received in the Pacific Theater during WWII. They met on Treasure Island where Trudi served as a medical records specialist. They were married 51 years, until Russ passed away in 1997.Trudi was a consummate student and teacher. She guided those around her in the proper use of English and Spanish. A Woodland, California resident for most of her life, she retired from teaching in the Woodland School District, commanding the reputation of being a stern disciplinarian with high classroom standards. Trudi had a great love of classical music and began taking piano lessons from her mother at age 6. As an adult, she was a crack shot with a rifle, once beating all the males at the Yolo Co Fair in deer silhouette competition. She also retained the family record salmon catch of 30 pounds while fishing on the Rogue River, Oregon. Her cooking prowess was evident in the numerous awards she received at the county fair, as well as life-long requests for her recipes, especially those made with honey. An avid naturalist, Trudi was the happiest when communing with nature. In her later years she often spoke of her pony Madge that she rode to school every day. She so enjoyed the beloved view of the Olympic Mountains in Washington, the lakes and valleys of Idaho and hunting for huckleberries in the Idaho woods.Trudi was a gracious, loving lady with a beautiful smile and wonderful wit and sense of humor. Her good Swiss genes and love of healthy living allowed her to live a long healthy life. We feel blessed to have had so many precious years with her.We thank all the wonderful friends and caretakers she met while living at Fairwinds Brighton Court in Lynnwood, WA and Emeritus Brookdale in Poulsbo, WA.
