John Andrew Mccallum

November 26, 1942 — April 21, 2022

John A. McCallum of Bainbridge Island passed away on April 21, 2022, due to complications from heart surgery. He was surrounded by his family.

John was born in Bremerton, WA to Kathleen and James McCallum. He graduated from East Bremerton
High School in 1961 then attended the University of Washington where he joined the Sigma Nu
Fraternity. He transferred to Washington State University where he graduated in 1967.
He obtained a Master's Degree in business from the University of Southern California and the University of Puget
Sound.

While attending WSU, he met his wife, Marilyn Benskin. They were married in August 1968 and had 2
children.

John retired from his 36-year career as a pharmaceutical manager with Glaxo Smith Kline
Pharmaceuticals.

He served in the United States Army and retired with the rank of Major.
John’s favorite pastimes include boating in the San Juan Islands with friends & family, watching football, reading, and yearly family vacations. Nothing was more important to him than spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, children Michelle and Nick (Nicole), grandsons Brian and Lincoln,
sister, Mary Brunstad (Mike), brother-in-law Gil Varjas (Jackie), sister-in-law Myrna Benskin, brother-in-
law Steve Benskin (Pilar), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents,
brother James McCallum, sister Kathy Varjas, mother-in-law Margaret Benskin, father-in-law Earle
Benskin, brother-in-law Richard Benskin, and sister-in-law Sue McCallum.

A private ceremony will be held this summer. If you would like to donate in John’s name please consider
