was at home with her family and close friends when she passed away at sunset Friday, October 19th.Born Karen Alice LeGrand in Teaneck, N.J. on August 25, 1956, she spent her childhood growing up with six siblings in New Jersey. She completed college studies in environmental science and moved to Juneau, AK as a young woman, later moving to Sitka where she lived and worked as a field biologist for five years. She developed an interest in medicine and human health and in 1985 she began pursuing a Physical Therapy degree from University of Washington, which she completed in 1989. She and her future husband moved to Indianola, Washington where they began to raise a family.Karen loved the outdoors, hiking, biking with friends and spending time with her family and community. She was a devoted mother and a caring practicing physical therapist. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Helen LeGrand, 5 siblings, Rob, Nancy, Janet, Kenny and Kevin, her husband, Jay Zischke and their two children Karl and Sarah. Her courage and spirit throughout her struggle with cancer was an inspiration to all. She left us with so many gifts - We love you Karen.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Karen on Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 1 to 4 at Camp Indianola in Indianola, Washington. Parking is limited, but a shuttle service will be available from down town Indianola.
