Rosalynn Iilona Elllis was born on September 22, 1975, in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and passed away of a heart attack on May 27, 2021. She grew up in the Bay Area and Stockton, California, and later moved to Suquamish, Washington. She was a proud descendant of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Rosalynn leaves behind her two sons Richard Chavez, Jr. and Gavin Ormond; parents Lynn Ellis and Terry and Cindy Ellis; brothers Jay Ellis, Daniel Cruz and sisters Martina Lange, Tleena Ives, and Trisha (Tyee) Ives; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and dear friends. Tom Wilson, a special BFF, made sure she attended important medical appointments.
Rosalynn, known as Roz for short, graduated from East Union High School in Manteca, California. In high school, she was active with choir, softball, and the swim team. In addition, she was involved in the Indian Education program, where she learned to bead, powwow dance and traveled to Washington D.C. in high school with the Close-Up program. She later graduated from Andon Medical School and worked several years at the Port Gamble S’Klallam Indian Health Clinic as a medical assistant.
She had an infectious laugh and a wonderful sense of humor. She was the best person to watch movies with as she had the most expressive and fun reactions, whether viewing a thriller or comedy. She lived a life full of wonder, awe and lived life to the beat of her own drum authentic and genuine way. Roz loved watching her sons play sports and was their biggest fan.
A private ceremony will be held due to COVID. The family invites you to share your favorite memories of Rosalynn.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA
