passed away at the age of 94 on July 11th, 2009 at Island Health and Rehabilitation. Born on September 5th, 1914 to William and Anna Maria Kemp in Fort Collins, Colorado she attended 12 different schools between first and twelfth grades, graduating from Mount Vernon High School. As a young child she lived on Pleasant Beach where her father and uncle owned a boat that was part of the Mosquito Fleet that taxied workers to and from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She married Lee C. Crandall in 1955 and together they had three children, along with one step daughter from Lee's previous marriage. She was a homemaker and tireless worker and was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She loved all animals and rescued and cared for countless numbers during her life.Lee died in 1955 and Roxanne went to Olympic College School of Nursing getting her nursing degree and working in hospitals, nursing homes and for private families. She later married Leonard Pace and they made their home on Bainbridge Island.She will be remembered for her enormous capacity for love, kindness and generosity. She loved gardening, knitting and baking cookies for her grandchildren. Our family would like to express our gratitude to all the wonderful people at Island Health and Rehabilitation for the love and caring they gave our mother for the last two years. Roxanne was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, son Kenneth Lynn, step-daughter Nataline Hawk, sister Katherine Haggard. She leaves behind a son Robert (Faye) Crandall of Auburn, daughter Patricia (Ronald) Marshall of Bainbridge Island, daughter-in-law Angelyn Lynn of Bainbridge Island, son-in-law John D. Hawk of Bremerton, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PAWS of Bainbridge Island, P.O. Box 10811.
