died peacefully March 20, 2017 surrounded by his family at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Born on May 23, 1942 in Bemidji, MInnesota, Tom's family moved to Bainbridge I sland when he was six months old. He counted himself as a lifelong resident of Bainbridge, graduating from Bainbridge High School in 1960, and stayed close to his classmates, "The Untouchables," for more than fifty six years.Tom attended Olympic College following his high school graduation and then transferred to Central Washington University to finish his Bachelor of Arts in Education. Tom met is city girl Diane, while attending CWU in Ellensburg. They were married September 23, 1966 in Seattle. After two years living in Edmonds, Tom and Diane bought property in Kingston, built a home, and raised their family, children Jennifer and Tom, in the community where he resided for nearly fifty years.Tom valued education and sharing his knowledge with others. He spent twenty seven years with the Edmonds School District as an Industrial Arts Educator. He maintained friendships with many students following their graduation. In addition to teaching, he spent summers as a Commercial salmon fisherman.Tom was a visionary who could see unlimited possibility and potential in people and things. He spent twenty four years serving as Kingston Port Commissioner and was instrumental in the redevelopment of a tiny old marina into a beautiful modern marina that serves as a civic destination for the community.Tom was much loved by his family and friends for his wit and wisdom. He left an impression upon everyone he met, and was known for both his tenacity and kindness. He leaves behind his wife of fifty years Diane; daughter Jennifer of Los Angeles; son Tom (Jenn) of Kingston and grandchildren Madison and Aaron of Los Angeles.A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 22, 2017 at Grace Church, Bainbridge Island, WA.
