Wallis (Walli) Ann Corn

d. April 19, 2008

passed into the arms of the Lord April 19, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was at home in the company of her family. Walli was born May 7, 1941 in Seattle to William and Ruth Petrie of Bainbridge Island and has lived on Bainbridge Island since shortly after birth. She was a 1959 graduate of Bainbridge High School and attended the University of Washington where she studied drama. She was secretary and later youth director at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church, Bainbridge Island from 1975 to 1993 where she developed a relationship with the Lutheran Compass Center in Seattle. She and her youth groups worked with and supported the homeless of Seattle through the Compass Center until she retired in 1993. She continued her support for the homeless to the present and was proud to still have a cadre of homeless folks counted among her friends. She was the manager of Island Family Eyecare of Bainbridge Island from 1993 until 2008 when illness forced her into retirement a second time!Walli is survived by her husband David L. Corn, two sons, Patrick L. McInnis of Los Angeles, CA (wife Dana) and David R. Corn of Silverdale, WA (wife Jennifer). She has two grandchildren, Madison Ann Corn (age 4) of Silverdale and Allison Elizabeth Corn (Born April 11, 2008) also of Silverdale. Throughout her life she cherished a close relationship with her sister Linda Abercrombie of Poulsbo, WA, nephew William Eisenhardt of Kingston, WA, niece Shari Stoddard and grandnieces Kayli Stoddard and Delcy Stoddard of Bainbridge Island. Those of us who were lucky enough to have been touched by this wonderful lady will surely miss her tremendous ability to light up a room as well as listen to the concerns of others above those of her own. Her unshakeable optimism was contagious and kept us all going even as her health deteriorated in recent years. She subscribed wholeheartedly to the axioms of the late Rev. Dale Turner who advocated "God first, others second, and I'm third." Walli truly placed her being secondary to those around her and knew her relationship with her God. God was always first in her life and it was her faith, smile and concern for us all that carried her family and friends through this ordeal. She will be missed. There will be a celebration of her life on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 @ 3:00 PM at Kiana Lodge.Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Kitsap County, PO Box 3416 Silverdale WA 98383 Lutheran Compass Center, 77 S. Washington Seattle, WA 98104, Bainbridge Island Rotary Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 11286 Bainbridge Island, WA 98110 or the charity of your choice. Please no flowers!
