Bill passed away on August 19, 2007 in his Cliffside home. He was 89 years of age.Born September 17, 1918 to Amanda and William Griffin in Atchison, Kansas. "Bill" attended Emporia State University nearby until joining the Army at the outbreak of World War II. Bill went to Officer Candidate School, then was stationed in Southern California, where he met Doris Louise Newkirk and was married in Los Angeles, California in 1943. He served for two years in the Solomon Islands during the war and returned to California to manage a butcher shop in Van Nuys, CA. In 1951 he was recalled by the Army and continued to serve as an Artillery Officer for over 20 years, retiring as a Major. He served in Korea, Alaska, Colorado, Japan, and at Fort Lawton, in Seattle, Washington. He then went to work for an international defense contractor as a supply specialist in Vietnam and Singapore. Upon his return to the states he was employed by the City of Seattle Parks Department as a Park Planner until his second retirement. Bill and Doris then moved to Cliffside just north of Port Gamble, WA and built their retirement dream home and a wonderful rhododendron garden overlooking Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains they so loved.Besides his wife of 64 years he is survived by three sons: Donald Kenneth Griffin of Eaton, Colorado, William Walker Griffin, Jr of Olympia, WA, and Kenneth Wayne Griffin of Kirkland, WA as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.Bill will be remembered for his garden, but mainly for his love and care of his wife Doris.Bill will be interred at Hansville Cemetery. At Bill's request, donations may be sent to The Salvation Army.Arrangements by Cook Family Funeral Home.
