Family and friends are saddened to report the sudden passing of David Bruce Larimore on January 12, 2026. Dave, age 80, was a resident of Bainbridge Island for the last 36 years. He is survived by his brother, Michael Larimore, and sister-in-law Mary Anne Larimore of Cupertino, California, nephew James Larimore of San Carlos, California, and niece Elizabeth Larimore of Seattle. He will be missed by the many close friends and neighbors of his Walden community, where he was regarded for his wisdom, humor, problem solving prowess.
Dave was born July 23, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents Maurice Fay Larimore and Martha Marie (Glissman) Larimore. The family lived in Shaker Heights, Ohio, until relocating to Boulder, Colorado, in 1961. After graduating from Fairview High School in 1963, he studied at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, graduating with distinction in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. As part of his engineering program, he participated in an industrial co-op program with Gates Rubber Company in Denver.
After graduation, Dave traveled widely during his years of employment in the oil and petro-chemical industry, with both engineering and project management roles. In addition to domestic assignments in the San Francisco area, Houston, and Mississippi, he spent time in Japan, Kuwait, South Africa, and Rotterdam, developing and overseeing refinery and processing operations.
In 1984, he took on a new challenge and worked for five years in the booming oil operations of the North Slope in Alaska. He was based in Anchorage and traveled to the Prudhoe Bay facility on alternating weeks. He loved the rugged and wild scenery of the Far North and developed an avid interest in nature and landscape photography during this time.
Stepping away from the pace of his earlier employment, in 1989 Dave put down roots on Bainbridge Island for the next 36 years to enjoy the scenery and sailing opportunities of the Pacific Northwest.
Beyond his active service and support of the Bainbridge community, he was a strong advocate of the American Diabetes Association and the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library.
Dave is further remembered for his dedication to engineering higher education, which launched him into such a full and fulfilling professional life. He endowed generous scholarships at his alma mater, Northwestern University, as well as the University of Washington and the University of Colorado, to which he felt strong community connections. His legacy will live on through the support of exceptional undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in chemical engineering.
Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA.
