Donna Kay Lauby

December 12, 1947 — October 25, 2023

Donna Kay Lauby, age 75, passed away on October 25, 2023, in Silverdale, Washington. She was born on December 12, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles and Eileen Lauby. Donna was a loving sister, aunt, and great-aunt. She is survived by her sisters, Dolores McCann and Joyce Kuykendall, her brother Robert C. Lauby, and a large extended family. Although she never married or had a family of her own, Donna embraced her 10 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Mary Mabry.

Donna began her career as a secretary/typist for a telecommunications company after she graduated from St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Over the years, she worked her way up and eventually retired as a VP of Human Resources for GTE. Her job took her all over the world, particularly to the Middle East, Africa, Alaska, and Hawaii, where her company was installing new communication systems.

After retiring in 2004, Donna relocated from Texas to California to be closer to her sister and brother-in-law, Dolores & Bill McCann. They were a three-some and lived in various places, including a California golf resort, an Arizona "snow bird" resort, and Bend, Oregon. They embarked on adventures, traveling to Mexico for golf, Hawaii for sunshine, and driving RVs across the Southwest during winters. Donna also cherished being a part of Dolores and Bill's West Coast family, joining them for holidays and celebrations since the rest of her family resided in the Midwest or East Coast.

Donna was a master crocheter and had a special talent for creating beautiful afghans. Her creations adorned the homes of her family members, including her nieces and nephews, who each have a cherished piece made by her.

Memorial Services will be held in Washington and Virginia in the Spring.

Donna Kay will be remembered for her love, generosity, and adventurous spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and creativity that will be cherished by her family and friends.
