Eva Johanne Kasperson

October 2, 1943 — February 22, 2023

Eva Johanne Kasperson, age 79, passed away February 22nd, 2023 at her home on Bainbridge Island following a 10.5 year battle with breast cancer.

Eva was born in Norway on the island of Hitra to Martinus and Auslag Odegaard. Eva’s parents both passed away when she was 6 years old. After their passing she went to live with her older sister Gunvor Svendsvik in Kristiansund. When she was 10 years old she came to Seattle where some of her aunts and uncles had moved and was adopted by Margrette and Lori Ottesen who were friends of the family.

Eva attended Catherine Blaine Junior High School and graduated from Queen Ann High School in 1961. During this time she met her life long friends Margie Lawrence, Mary Miller and Heather Grossman, with whom she kept in touch with for the rest of her life.

Eva spent a lot of time in the summer at her parents’ Point White drive summer house which was located on the water on Bainbridge Island. This is where she met the love of her life, Karl Kasperson. As the story goes, Karl was in his boat with his close friends and noticed Eva on the beach. He asked her if she wanted to go for a ride in his boat and she said, “no.” But Karl wouldn’t take “no” for an answer and picked her up and put her in the boat and took a couple laps around the bay. The next day he drove down to her parents summer home and asked her out and they married 6 months later.

Eva and Karl made their home on Bainbridge Island where they owned and ran Bainbridge Island Lumber and raised 2 boys, Leif and Kristoffer. Eva enjoyed visiting with her grandkids, reading, playing solitaire, going for walks and cooking for family and friends.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; Martinus and Auslag Odegard, adoptive parents, Margrette and Lori Ottesen; her sister Gunvor Svendsvik and nephew Arnold Svendsvik. Eva is survived by her sons Leif and Kristoffer; her grandchildren Natalie, Dylan, Eivin, Magnus and Nolan; great-granddaughters, Sophie and Maison; her sister Anna Haugen, nephew Eddie Haugen, niece Inger Svendsvik, and many great-niece  and nephews.

Arrangements are entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island.
