passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at The Wyatt House on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She was born on April 21, 1926 and was 83 years of age. She was the daughter of the late John and Vivian Nelson of Vancouver, B.C., and sister of the late John A. Nelson and Margaret N. Heeney, also of Vancouver. Betty is the widow of John F. Redmond, who passed away in 2005. Since their marriage at Vancouver in 1961, John and Betty resided in Calgary, Toronto, and Houston, and retired to their residence on Fletcher Bay in 1974. Betty resided at the Wyatt House since 2006. She is survived by her son Gregory Nelson Redmond of Los Angeles, California, her stepson John C. Redmond and his wife Else of Lincoln, CA, stepson Daniel P. Redmond, M.D. of Silver Spring, MD and Myrna L. Redmond, widow of stepson Richard C. Redmond, of Colchester, VT. John and Betty's family includes eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nephews Rod Nelson, Michael Nelson, Barry Nelson and Brad Heeney, also niece Lisa Heeney who resides in British Columbia. Betty was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church where she served on the altar guild for many years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed summers with John cruising the waters of Alaska and British Columbia aboard their yacht, the Martha C. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Memorial Service on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island, Washington(Directions). A luncheon will follow at the church hall. Inurnment will take place in Carthage, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to: St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
