James W. Wyatt, 82, passed away on June 13, 2024. Jim was born at Seattle General Hospital on January 5, 1942, the eldest of 3 boys to Captain Jack Wyatt and Ruby (Metzger) Wyatt. He was a proud grandson to Captain Cyprian T. Wyatt, one of Puget Sounds’ pioneer ferry captains, and as a boy would mow the lawn of Cyprian’s home, still standing today on the corner of Wyatt Way and Madison Avenue as the Historical Wyatt House.
Jim attended Bainbridge Island schools growing up and graduated along with the Class of 1960, locally famous for being known as "The Untouchables," where he forged loyal lifetime friendships.
Jim married Sharon Chamberlin (deceased July 29, 2022) in 1962 at the Poulsbo Lutheran Church and together they created a home across from Battle Point Park where they lived for nearly 65 years, raising children Natalie and Luke. Jim was known as the "Mayor of Arrow Point," and his passion of gardening rhododendrons was evident each spring and early summer when their two acres were in full bloom.
Jim loved participating in the island’s recreational sports and was, for many years, each weekend playing baseball at Battle Point Park or Strawberry Hill with team, the Athletic Supporters. He was passionate about coaching year-round little league baseball and basketball with Luke and friends and they could most often be found hitting balls in the backyard with Jim at the Arrow Point property.
Later in Jim's life, he took on running; having participated in tons of 5Ks, 10Ks, and half-marathons in and around the Pacific Northwest, including numerous Seattle StairClimbs and even braving the Fremont Solstice race.
Jim was lovingly cared for in his last months at the Wyatt House Senior Living home next door to his grandfather's house on Wyatt Way. He is survived by children Kim Blevins, Natalie Room, and Luke Wyatt, as well as eight grandchildren and brother John Wyatt.
A Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island, across the street from Jim's beloved home.
