Janet Lee Elliott, 79, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in Silverdale, Washington.
Janet was born on October 31, 1946, in Denver, Colorado, to Thomas Elliott and Jeraldine Elliott. After the loss of her father when she was three years old, Janet moved with her mother to Bainbridge Island, where they settled near her grandparents. It was there that her mother later married Jack Hoodenpyle, who became a loving and important part of Janet’s life and the family’s Bainbridge story. Bainbridge became the place she would always call home and where she built a life rooted in family, friendship, faith, and service.
A proud graduate of Bainbridge High School’s Class of 1965, Janet went on to attend Washington State University, graduating in 1969. She remained a devoted Coug throughout her life and loved cheering on WSU.
Janet built a respected career at Swedish Hospital, where she served as a manager in patient financial services. She was known for her professionalism, compassion, and dedication to helping others navigate difficult moments with care and understanding.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and meaningful connections. Janet loved her cats, treasured her book club friendships, and was an active member of Suquamish United Church of Christ. She also gave generously of her time through volunteer work supporting breast cancer organizations, reflecting her lifelong spirit of kindness and service to others.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Elliott, Jeraldine Hoodenpyle, and Jack Hoodenpyle Sr.; her grandparents, Juliet and Henry Elliott, and Ellen and Raymond Bowser. Her family also notes the passing of her brother-in-law, Mike Reese, who died only hours after Janet, making their loss especially profound.
Janet is lovingly remembered by her siblings, Patsy Reese, Paula Mallahan (Tim), and Jack Hoodenpyle Jr. (Kim); her seven nieces and nephews; and her sixteen great-nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and steady presence.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Arrangements are entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA
