Jay Herbert Dahlquist, July 18, 1938, to October 7, 2025, Jay Dahlquist, well known in Poulsbo as the co-owner of Dahlquist’s Fine Jewelry, passed peacefully at The Ridge, Memory Care Facility in Silverdale. He was 87 years old.
Jay was born in Omak, Washington, to Herbert and Kathleen Dahlquist. He graduated from Omak High School, where he played football and basketball. He attended Seattle University and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in business administration. He worked from the time he was old enough to have a paper route. His work history is varied, from that paper route to being a bank runner in downtown Seattle to The Boeing Co. as a draftsman and Allstate and Safeco Insurance companies as an internal auditor.
In 1981, Jay founded Dahlquist’s Fine Jewelry with his wife, Sandi. The store originated on Front Street and later relocated to the Poulsbo Village Shopping Center. The couple traveled far and wide, finding jewelry for the store, including many trips to Antwerp, Belgium, to buy diamonds. They sold the store and retired in 2004. Retirement involved a good amount of travel, including a Panama Canal cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Jay is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandi, a brother, Duane Dahlquist (Susann) of Danville, VA, and a sister, JoAnne Kirkland of Des Moines, WA, and many nieces and nephews.
No services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to Poulsbo Lions Club, PO Box 244, Poulsbo, 98370.
