Joan was born September 24, 1963 to Anna and Bill Bowron. She grew up in Mount Vernon and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1981. She passed away September 22, 2024, after a long illness, at St. Michael's Hospital in Silverdale, Washington.
As a child Joan was very artistic; at age 4 she began making beautiful drawings and at age 10 began art lessons with a local artist, Eleanor Powers, where she created beautiful paintings.
Joan took piano lessons starting at age 6 and became accomplished on both piano and trumpet. After high school she enrolled at the University of Washington and played in the Husky Marching Band. Joan had a life long love for horses and took riding lessons while in grade school and high school and entered many competitions, earning ribbons and awards.
She was very soft-hearted and brought home many injured small animals and birds she found on her walks, fully expecting her Mother to make them all well again.
Joan met the love of her life, Dan Hornick; they married in 1992, celebrating 32 years of marriage on September 5th. She always enjoyed keeping a nice home and was an excellent cook, baker, and home maker, as well as holding a full-time job and planting and caring for a beautiful vegetable garden every year. She won several ribbons and awards for her vegetables at the Kitsap County Fairs.
Joan is survived by her husband, Daniel Hornick, mother Anna Bowron, sister Nancy (Andy) Kupp, mother in law Kay Hornick, brother and sister in law Tod and Diane Hornick, aunt Marilyn Raefield, and several cousins.
Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA.
