passed away peacefully on April 26, 2010 at age 91. She was a longtime Puyallup resident and had lived on Bainbridge Island for the last several years.Kay was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and lived there throughout her childhood. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she majored in nursing education and joined the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. On her wedding day in 1943 she and husband Rev. J. Burton Salter left Minnesota to begin married life in the West. They moved to Olympia in 1950 and Puyallup in 1964. Through the years Kay was active in the Episcopal church and she was also a longtime member of PEO. Her family was what mattered most to her in life, and she was also very proud of her Scandinavian heritage.Kay was preceded in death by Burton and son Tom. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Bennison of Leland, Michigan; children Mary Kay (Mike) Lampert of Bainbridge Island, Ann (Mac) Reilly of Puyallup, and Joe Salter of Kirkland; grandchildren Melinda (Jeff) Ketcheside of Bainbridge Island, Lara (Anthony) Hague of Puyallup, Katie Lampert of San Diego, and Bobby Durkee of Lacey; and great-grandchildren Maddie and Caroline Ketcheside and Mason and Marissa Hague. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 1 at 11 AM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Bainbridge Island with reception to follow (Directions). In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
