Bainbridge Island

Lafe Hasty Myers Jr., MD, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at his beautiful home on Bainbridge Island, surrounded by the life, people, and the place he loved.

Lafe was born on May 19, 1934, in Pueblo, Colorado. At age 12, he moved with his family to Richland, Washington, a transition that would mark the beginning of a lifelong connection to the Pacific Northwest. A gifted student with a naturally inquisitive mind, Lafe went on to attend the University of Washington and later earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Virginia Mason, where he laid the foundation for a distinguished career in medicine. While at the University, he met and married his first wife, Joice.

Lafe dedicated his professional life to caring for others as a medical doctor specializing in psychiatric medicine. He was known for his intelligence, compassion, and deep respect for the human experience. Patients and colleagues alike admired his thoughtful approach, steady presence, and genuine concern for those he served. Lafe was also a proud Military veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a Flight Surgeon, First Lieutenant. His Military career took him and his young family to live in several places, including Pensacola, Florida; Mobile, Alabama; and San Diego, California.

During the late 1960's Lafe invested in 36 acres of property on Orcas Island, Washington. The land was "Landlocked" and Lafe needed to negotiate an easement, which he did. The property was on President's Channel in the SanJuan Islands. This became a passion project where many of his extended family built a small cabin with a well, electricity, and a woodstove. Many generations of the family would come to enjoy and recreate at this property, which was eventually sold.

Outside of medicine, Lafe embraced life with curiosity and joy. He loved pickleball, gardening, and spending time with his various beloved dogs, and he cherished his winters in Arizona with his wife, Hanni. His Bainbridge Island home was a gathering place for combined family celebrations filled with laughter, connection, and warmth. Lafe also had a well-known sweet tooth and could rarely resist any candy- a small delight that brought him great pleasure.

Above all, Lafe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hanni Crissey; his eldest daughter, Lisa Witham; his sons Matthew Myers, Michael Myers, and Reid Skeel; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Myers and daughters Amy Skeel and Victoria Myers. His devotion to family was evident in the time he shared, the traditions he fostered, and the love he gave so freely.

A private celebration of life will be held at his home on January 10, 2026.

Lafe Hasty Myers Jr. lived a full, meaningful life marked by service, curiosity, kindness, and love.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
