passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the age of 87. He was born on January 9, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and had lived on Bainbridge Island since 1962.He loved the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and was an ardent scuba diver and hang-glider. Lyon worked for 31 years at Boeing Aerospace Defense as a systems engineer. After retiring in 1986, he devoted his time to the affairs and the future of the Poulsbo Marine Science Center, especially the octopus display, which has since been commemorated in a sculpture outside. Lyon encouraged his children to appreciate the beauty of the Northwest though many adventures.Lyon is survived by his wife Patricia McCandless of Bainbridge Island, WA and 5 children: Laura McCandless of Vashon Island, WA, Doug McCandless of Bainbridge Island, WA, Brian McCandless of Saratoga, NY, Stephen McCandless of Seattle, WA and Diana McCandless of Olympia, WA.
