Michael “Mike” Reese, 72, of Bainbridge Island, passed away peacefully after a ten-year battle with cancer on April 2, 2026, in Silverdale, Washington.
Mike was born on January 23, 1954, in Seattle, Washington, to William and Joanne Reese. He spent many of his boyhood summers on Bainbridge Island, first in Rolling Bay and later in Fort Ward, building cherished memories that remained special to him throughout his life. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and continued his education at North Seattle Community College, Griffin College, and the University of Washington. It was during one of his summers in Fort Ward that he met his wife, Patsy. They were married on August 4, 1973, and would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this August.
Mike grew up with a gift that stayed with him forever: the ability to find a friend wherever he went. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, and his warmth, humor, and genuine interest in people made others feel instantly comfortable.
In 1973, Mike proudly joined the United States Navy, serving six years with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 35, known as the “Magicians.” His service was a source of pride and reflected his dedication, discipline, and love of country.
Following his military service, Mike built a successful career in information technology and programming. Over the years, he contributed his talents to many respected companies, including The Boeing Company, Kiewit Corporation, Westin Hotels & Resorts, Marsh McLennan Agency, and The Odom Corporation. He was known for his sharp mind, problem-solving abilities, and steady professionalism.
Outside of work, Mike found joy in the things that brought beauty and connection to life. He loved creating stained glass, researching family ancestry, and spending treasured time at Hood Canal, whether relaxing in his RV or enjoying stays at the Blue Heron Condos. These places and passions brought him peace and many cherished memories with those he loved.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Reese; his daughters, Kim Bund (Matt) and Tracy Dew (Chris); his five grandchildren, Jacob, Ashley, Taylor, Logan, and Parker; his brother, Gary Reese (Diane); seven nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews who will all carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Joanne Reese; his brother, Bill Reese; and his grandparents, Jesse and Margaret Reese, and Minor “Mike” and Elsie Lynch. His family also mourns the loss of his sister-in-law, Janet Elliott, who passed away only hours before Mike, making this time of grief especially profound.
Mike will be remembered for his kindness, his easy conversations, his deep love for family, and the way he made everyone feel like a friend.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA
