In Loving Memory of Ruby Apalisok
It is with sadness that we share the news of Ruby’s passing on October 22, 2026. She died peacefully at home with her husband, Loy, at her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Pasay City, Philippines, on April 11, 1956, to Rosalinda and William Howing, Ruby was the youngest of five. Growing up as the "baby" of the family alongside her siblings Mindy, Jun, Ramon and Cyndy. After graduating from St. Joseph’s College, she immigrated to the United States in March of 1972. Shortly after her arrival, she met her husband, Loy, through a youth group in Oakland, California. Ruby had a wide range of passions from reading a good book to going to cycling class and traveling the world. She and Loy shared a lifelong passion for discovery, and while they traveled to many wonderful corners of the world together, one trip to New Zealand captured her heart like no other. It always remained the destination she cherished most. Yet, of all her joys, nothing compared to the time she spent with her grandchildren. Whether she was reading to them or sharing in their latest adventures, her passion for her family was the true light of her life.
More than anything, Ruby was the heartbeat of our family. As a mother to Pilar, Ella, and Rosie, and a proud mother-in-law to John, Ryan W., and Ryan B., she was our constant source of wisdom and support. But her role as "Lola" was perhaps her favorite. She found pure magic in her time with Gavyn, Theo, Cece, Lulu, Dominic, and Flora, and she leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in each of them.
She will be missed beyond words, but we take comfort knowing she is now at peace.
We invite family and friends to celebrate her beautiful life at her funeral service, which will be held on October 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 1310 Madison Avenue N., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110, where friends and family may attend her viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Guests are also invited to join the family for a reception immediately following the Mass.
The interment will be made at Hillcrest Cemetery, 5535 Old Mill Road NE, Bainbridge Island, at 1:30 pm.
